We headed out from Kansas City this morning and had a very interesting day. Our first stop was the Speedway car museum in Lincoln NE. Pete went on the tour and it was a beautiful day so Sammy watched a movie and I read a book in the car. It gets real interesting when we leave here.. I put in the wrong town on the GPS (it was not even a town in NE) and we ended up in the middle of a corn field. (See picture) We finally got on the right track and decided to take a back road instead of the interstate.. boy are we glad we did. We ended up in a small town called Halsey NE population 55. We stayed at the Frontier Motel. (Total of 12 rooms) Super clean motel and super nice people... Sammy wanted to sleep in so Pete and I went across the street to eat breakfast at the ONLY restaurant which was also the local bar, owned and operated by the same couple for over 38 years. They are the parents of 7 boys and 1 girl.. (Can you imagine?????) Breakfast only cost us $5.00 we could not believe it! The neat part was the local cowboys were having coffee and they were full of all kinds of information. One of the guys was also the president of the local school board.. 120 students in their district K-12. Teacher/student ratio 1/6. I asked the SB president how they did on AYP and he said he had no idea.. he left that up to the Superintendent. It has been one of my favorite days so far.
